What is the Industry PhD Programme?

The Programme is a strategic initiative of the Catalonian government, in collaboration with public and private universities, to increase the competitiveness and global presence of Catalan industry, to keep local talent in Catalonia, and to enable doctoral students to do R&D projects in companies.


In this programme PhD students do their doctoral thesis project at a company, in collaboration with a university or research centre.

The research project will be in line with the Company's strategy, and will be associated with a research group at a university, research centre or hospital research foundation. All PhDs earned under the Programme will receive the qualification of Industry PhD. Also, the project directors at the Company, and the student's thesis supervisor(s), will receive recognition for their participation in the Programme.

Who is involved in the Programme?

Companies, Research Centres, Universities, PhD students, The Catalonian government

Also involved are the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster, in Bellaterra, through special support from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), which is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, and the B30 Area Association. With help from their research groups, these centres will help to coordinate the projects and train students and companies on the value of the projects.
