Abstract: 

With a record efficiency above 25%, Halide Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs) are one of the most promising emerging photovotlaic technologies. Nevertheless, the main hurdle for their commercialization is their long-term operational stability. Although different strategies have been applied, the stability of PSCs is still far below the 25-year requirement demonstrated by commercial photovoltaic technologies.

This thesis is dedicated to the enhancement of the photovoltaic response and operational stability of PSCs through the application of Transition Metal oxides (TMOs).For this purpose, two PSCs architectures have been employed: the Inverted and the Carbon-based PSCs (C-based PSC). In both configurations, TMOs are part of the main constituent materials of the PSCs: transport layers and scaffolds; they are processed by low-cost printing methods, and most important, they confer high stability to the final device. We present our results on the study of different organic additives applied in screen printed C-based PSCs where power conversion efficiency (PCE) as high as 11.5% under AM 1.5G illumination have been obtained. We also show the application of NiO as the hole transport layer in Inverted PSCs fabricated completely by solution processing methods. In all cases, optimization, characterization and stability studies are presented.
