ARRAYS OF PLASMONIC NANOSTRUCTURES WITH HIGH ABSORPTION AND EXTENDED TIME RESPONSE

In this talk, I will show the fabrication, simulation and optical characterization of three hexagonal lattices of Au nanoelements with high absorption and a slow dynamic response. These systems were fabricated by Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) with small gaps between neighboring elements to exploit near-field coupling. Besides, a metal-insulator-metal configuration was used to enhance absorption of light.
Both the simulations and the experimental results demonstrate that these systems behave as perfect absorbers in the visible and/or the near infrared. Besides, the numerical study of the time evolution shows a relatively extended time response over which the systems fluctuates between localized and collective modes. It is of particular interest the echoed excitation of surface lattice resonance modes, which are still present at long times as a consequence of the geometric frustration induced by the geometry of these systems.
Hence, these structures could be of interest for enhanced spectroscopies such as Raman photoluminescence or other applications related to light absorption. As a matter of fact, preliminary results have proved their usefulness as substrates for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS).
